Lighting & Decor Care Guide

At Blisshme, we want your chandeliers, lamps, and decor pieces to stay beautiful, safe, and functional for everyday use. This guide includes simple care, cleaning, handling, and safety tips for decorative lighting and home decor products.

Whether you have purchased a chandelier, pendant light, table lamp, wall lamp, or decorative home accessory, proper care can help maintain the look and quality of your item over time.

1. General Lighting Safety

Before using or installing any lighting product, always read the product information, labels, and instructions provided with the item.

For safety:

Turn off the power before cleaning, moving, or adjusting any lighting product.
Never touch electrical parts with wet hands.
Do not use damaged cables, plugs, sockets, or light fittings.
Keep lighting products away from water unless the product is clearly marked as suitable for damp or wet areas.
Do not exceed the recommended bulb wattage or power rating.
Keep lamps and bulbs away from flammable materials such as curtains, bedding, paper, or fabric.
Stop using the product immediately if you notice burning smells, sparks, overheating, flickering, or visible damage.

For hardwired lighting such as chandeliers, pendant lights, or wall lights, we strongly recommend using a qualified electrician for installation.

2. Chandeliers and Ceiling Lights

Chandeliers and ceiling lights often act as statement pieces in a room, so regular light cleaning helps keep them looking bright and elegant.

Care tips:

Turn off the electricity before cleaning.
Allow bulbs and fittings to cool completely before touching them.
Use a soft dry microfiber cloth to remove dust.
For glass or crystal-style parts, use a soft cloth slightly dampened with mild cleaner, then dry immediately.
Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or rough sponges.
Do not pull, twist, or place pressure on hanging parts.
Check occasionally that visible screws, chains, or decorative parts are secure.

For ceiling-mounted or hardwired lighting, do not attempt installation or electrical repairs yourself unless you are qualified to do so.

3. Table Lamps and Floor Lamps

Table lamps and floor lamps are easier to move and style, but they still need careful handling.

Care tips:

Place lamps on a stable, flat surface.
Keep cords away from walkways to reduce trip hazards.
Do not place heavy furniture on power cords.
Use the correct bulb type and wattage listed for the lamp.
Dust the lampshade and base regularly with a soft cloth.
For fabric shades, use a lint roller or soft brush.
For metal, ceramic, glass, or wooden bases, use a soft dry or slightly damp cloth depending on the material.
Avoid placing lamps in areas where they may be knocked over easily.

If a lamp becomes unstable, damaged, or overheats, stop using it and contact us.

4. Wall Lamps and Accent Lights

Wall lamps and accent lighting can create a warm atmosphere in hallways, bedrooms, living rooms, and decorative corners.

Care tips:

Make sure wall lights are securely installed.
Avoid hanging items directly from wall lamps or brackets.
Dust regularly using a soft cloth.
Do not spray cleaning products directly onto the fixture.
Keep bulbs and electrical parts dry.
Use only compatible bulbs recommended for the product.

For wired wall lighting, installation should be completed by a qualified professional.

5. Bulb Compatibility

Using the correct bulb is important for both safety and performance.

Before replacing a bulb, check:

Bulb fitting type
Maximum wattage
Voltage compatibility
Recommended bulb shape or size
Whether LED bulbs are suitable
Whether the product is dimmable, if using a dimmer switch

Never use a bulb with a higher wattage than recommended. This may cause overheating or damage.

If you are unsure which bulb to use, contact us before installing the bulb.

6. Cleaning Decorative Home Products

For non-electrical decor products, regular gentle cleaning helps maintain their appearance.

General care tips:

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth.
Avoid abrasive cleaning pads.
Avoid strong chemical cleaners unless clearly suitable for the material.
Keep decor away from excessive moisture, direct heat, or harsh sunlight where possible.
Handle fragile items with care.
Place decorative items on stable surfaces.
Do not overload trays, shelves, or hanging decor beyond their intended use.

For glass, ceramic, metal, or painted finishes, always test any cleaner on a small hidden area first.

7. Indoor Use Guidance

Most decorative lighting and decor products are intended for indoor use unless clearly stated otherwise.

Do not use indoor lighting products outdoors, in bathrooms, or in damp areas unless the item is specifically rated for that use.

Using indoor products in unsuitable conditions may cause damage and may create safety risks.

8. Moving or Repositioning Items

When moving lamps, chandeliers, or decor products:

Turn off and unplug the item where applicable.
Lift from the base or strongest part of the item.
Do not lift lamps by the cord or shade.
Do not pull chandeliers or hanging parts.
Wrap fragile pieces before moving.
Avoid placing heavy items on delicate decor surfaces.

If you are moving a hardwired light fixture, ask a qualified electrician to safely disconnect and reinstall it.

9. Storage Tips

If you need to store lighting or decor products:

Clean and dry the item before storage.
Remove bulbs where possible.
Wrap fragile parts separately.
Store in a dry indoor location.
Avoid heavy stacking on delicate items.
Keep cords loosely wrapped to avoid damage.
Keep small parts, screws, and fittings in a labelled bag.

Proper storage helps prevent scratches, moisture damage, and broken parts.

10. When to Stop Using a Lighting Product

Stop using a lighting product immediately if you notice:

A damaged cord or plug
Loose electrical parts
Burning smell
Smoke or sparks
Unusual heat
Frequent flickering
Cracked bulb holder
Visible damage after delivery or use

Please contact us if your item arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect.
